Finally, summer is here! Ooh, how I had missed it! And with the summer came back my wanderlust! That's why I treated myself to three nights in the Grimsel region.
The first night I spent in a hotel on the Grimsel Pass at 2,164 meters. The Grimsel Pass is a Swiss mountain pass that connects the Bernese Oberland with the Upper Valais and separates the Bernese Alps from the Uri Alps.
The next day I hiked on to the Bächlitalhütte SAC at 2,328 meters (from the bus stop Räterichsboden to the hut in approx. 2h). I enjoyed a night there before hiking back down and spending another night at the top of the pass.
I can highly recommend the region and the hike to the SAC hut (hike from . The panorama is unique, the hike varied and beautiful! But take a look for yourself...
Already the bus ride from Meiringen is an adventure... If you don't like bends, you should definitely look for a seat at the very front of the Postbus... ;-)
The views are getting more and more spectacular the higher you get up on the Grimsel pass...
Finally up there!
The view on top of the pass is spectacular: The beautiful Totensee with its mountain view in the background left me almost speechless and I did a lot of walks there - for sunset, sunrise - ooh, and whenever I felt it was time for a nice breeze of fresh air...
I stayed in the Hotel Alpenrösli, a simple but priceworthy hotel next to the lake. Very nice staff, good rooms - oh, and lovely neighbors in the marmot park nearby:
The next day I started my hike - first one hour from the top of the Grimsel pass down to Grimsel Hospiz, a famous hotel that was already accommodating guests in the early Middle Age. In 1930, the old hospice had to make way for the reservoir and has been in its present form ever since. When it opened, it was the first electrically heated hotel in Europe. Today it is one of the Swiss Historic Hotels. It still exudes the charm of an old hotel and I was quite enchanted by it.
I then started my hike. It took me about 2 hours from the bus stop Räterichsboden to the Bächlital-hut. I soon felt the 400 meters of altitude in my bones, but the view was worth the effort! What a fantastic setting!
Hut in sight! The Bächlital hut offers space for 75 people and is highly recommended. I was delighted by the friendly atmosphere, the delicious food - and of course the phenomenal view! No wonder I slept like a log!
The next day, I hiked down again and took the bus up to the pass again, where I enjoyed another beautiful sunset, the silence and the mountain surroundings. It somehow felt bad to head back to the city the next day. What a wellnessy kind of trip, even if my muscles were sore the next day.
