Last weekend I had the chance to explore another wonderful city - Annecy, a town in southeast France. With its approx. 125'000 inhabitants it is not very big but it has its own charm. When you watch the photos, you will find out quickly why it is called "Venice of the Alps".
We started our trip on Friday evening after work - what a fantastic feeling to walk out of the office and just start a weekend trip! :-) As Annecy is only half an hour away from Geneva, we arrived there just before the last rays of sunlight disappeared.
On our way to the restaurant, we walked along the canals and enjoyed the cozy atmosphere. Isn't it pretty?

We found a cute, little restaurant just next to the canal and traditionally ordered a bottle of red wine. What a perfect start for the weekend! :-)
The next day, we started to explore Annecy by daylight, walked along the waterfront again...
... explored the colorful shops...
... made a visit in Annecy's castle (Chateau d'Annecy)...
... from where we had a wonderful view over Lake Annecy...
... and then continued our stroll all over Annecy.
In a little street we found a very cute hotel / restaurant / shop called "Le Boutik Hotel". They had a beautiful garden where we sat down, enjoyed the sun and the refreshing drinks.
We then got hungry and headed back to the city center. Again, we couldn't stop taking pictures of this picturesque town (sorry for this! :-) ).
We sat down in a restaurant that served delicious Crepes and Galettes. Yummy!
... oh well, and the desert was not too bad either! :-)
In the afternoon, we went down to the seafront. It was quite crowded and we were surprised how many pedalo rentals we found.
This day, it was the 14th of July, which is the French national day. We found this out by coincidence, but wanted to join the fireworks at the lake in the evening. We were having pizza in a very nice restaurant (by the way one of the nicest pizzas I've ever eaten - make sure you have your pizza at "Chez Monique" if you're in Annecy one day --> adress: 31 Rue Sainte-Claire) when it suddenly started to pour. Within some seconds, everything was wet. We were lucky as our table stood halfway under the roof and we could save our delicious pizzas from being drowned in French rain. The rest of the dinner was quite funny- two of us standing, two of us sitting with the legs up to avoid getting wet feet.
Finally it cleared up and we had the chance to see one of the most spectacular fireworks we've ever seen (the next day, the French had another reason to party when they won the FIFA Worldcup, but that was when we were already on our way back home... :-) ).
On Sunday morning, we decided to have brunch at "La bicyclette rose", probably the cutest café in Annecy (adress: 29 Rue Sommeiller). We were veeery lucky to get a table, half an hour later the queue was already very long. We enjoyed a great brunch with eggs, salmon, pancakes, cheese and everything you need to start a good sunday.
With happy faces quite similar to the face on the photo above, we started our way back to Switzerland. It has been a veeery nice, relaxed weekend in Annecy. This town is really worth a visit. Hope my photos inspired you a little bit! Good night!
