Do you know the feeling when you feel the desperate need for sun after too many days in the fog? So did I last weekend! After several days without sun, it was enough! So we decided to seek for sun and to go up to a mountain that is often called "Queen of the mountains" - Mount Rigi, a mountain massif of the Swiss alps, located in Central Switzerland ans shared by two cantons (Schwyz and Lucerne). The highest point is at 1'798 m only, but still we managed to find the sun there. Queen Mountain didn't disappoint us!
I let the pictures talk here. If you're interested to get to know the Rigi, you find some useful information at the bottom of this post. Dive into this winter wonderland and enjoy the sun!

The perfect place to be! |
Another highlight of our Mount Rigi-trip: The old rack railway, Europe's oldest mountain railway, which was first operated in 1871! It's quite spectacular to see and if you have the chance, make sure you take a ride with it!
Do you see it coming? |
Quite nostalgic, isn't it? |

Planning a trip to Mount Rigi? Here are my tips... Mount Rigi is quite touristic, but very nice! There are a lot of things to do up there - skiing, sledging, hiking, or enjoying a spa-day in the wonderful "Rigi Kaltbad"-spa. Another highlight: The rack railway, Europe's oldest mountain railway, first operated in 1871!
How to get there:
- You can reach Mount Rigi by aerial cable car or railway from different points (eg. Vitznau, Weggis or Küssnacht). My favourite is the railway from Arth-Goldau to Rigi Kulm (the peak).
What to do:
- Enjoying the view from the peak (Rigi Kulm)
- Go sledging
- Take the old rack railway for a nostalgic feeling
- Relax at "Mineral Bath and Spa" at Rigi Kaltbad. A fantastic spa with a great view! Check Link for more information
- Take a walk through the snow. We walked from Rigi Kulm down to the next railway stop and had a picnic on the way. The view was amazing! There are several hiking trails, so check the homepage first.
