The next day, I already had to say goodbye to
my Cousin and her husband (two absolutely amazing hosts by the way!! ) and
Boston.
I took the bus which brought me back to New York City in 4 hours – or
at least that’s how I had planned it. We got stuck in a terrible traffic jam
and once in downtown Manhattan (2 hours delayed) the main roads were closed
because of a variety of events. I got quite nervous because time was running
and I knew that it would be difficult to reach my flight. So I already phoned
the Swiss Airline (i would looove to know what People in the bus thought when I
started talking in Swiss german!! :-) ). Once outside the bus, the queue
in front of the taxi stand was enormous and the man from the Airport bus company
told me that the bus also needs 2 h to get to the airport under the current
traffic Situation. Great! Now I had to decide: Should I just slow down, drink a
coffee at times Square and take the plane home tomorrow? Or should I run as if
my life depended on it? Well… Guess how… I did the second thing. Ran down the
stairs to the Metro Station as if the devil was behind me, pushing away other
People like the biggest jerk (I still feel a bit sorry…)… and then waited for
the metro. And waited. And waited. 30 minutes until the check-in-desk closed
and I was still downtown Manhattan! Once in the Metro, the stops didn’t seem to
become less. 13 stops, 12, 11… And then I had to change to another Train. It
seemed quite unrealistic, but somehow I didn’t lose my optimism and just kept
running (and pushing away other People, sorry again!!). But it was worth it: 3
minutes after the official closing time, I reached the check-in-desk: Sweating,
breathing heavily and probably red like a tomato. But I managed! Can you
imagine how good I slept on my 8h-flight back to Zurich?
Even if it was only a week, I saw sooo many beautiful
things. Thanks again to Matthieu and Colette, which made my trip unforgettable!
I’m already looking forward to seeing you again soon!
